What are clip-in extensions?

Clip-in extensions are wefts of human hair on small pressure clips that you put in and take out yourself. Fitted, cut and colour-matched to your own hair, they are the only method with no commitment. At our Upper East Side studio clip-ins are $380 for 18 inches and $420 for 22 inches.

Clip-in extensions are wefts of hair with small pressure clips sewn along the top edge. You put them in yourself in a few minutes and take them out at the end of the day. Nothing is bonded, taped or beaded to your hair.

Why is a fitted set better than a store-bought set?

Most people who say clip-ins look obvious have worn an off-the-shelf set. The hair was a near-enough colour, cut in a blunt line, and dropped straight in.

A fitted set is colour-matched against your own hair in daylight, then cut and blended into your haircut so the ends marry rather than sit on top. That work is most of the difference between clip-ins that read as extensions and clip-ins nobody notices.

Who are clip-in extensions best for?

What are the limitations of clip-in extensions?

Clips need enough of your own hair to grip and to hide the weft edge. On very fine or very short hair they can show, and worn daily in the same positions they put repeated tension on the same spots. If you want length you never think about, a tape-in or K-tip install is the better answer — we will tell you that at the consultation.

Clip-in or halo?

A halo is a single weft on a wire that rests on your head. Clip-ins are several wefts you place where you want them. A halo is faster and adds length; clip-ins are more adjustable and can add volume at more than one level. Both come out at night.

What hair do you use?

Remy human hair, colour-matched in person. We work in real hair only and never synthetic — synthetic fibre cannot be heat-styled to match your own hair, and that mismatch is usually what gives a set away.
