What are hand-tied weft extensions?

Hand-tied wefts are continuous rows of human hair hand-sewn onto beaded tracks along the head. The weft is thinner than a machine weft, so it lies flatter and adds volume without bulk. Pricing depends on how many rows your hair needs and is quoted at your free consultation.

A hand-tied weft is a thin curtain of hair, tied by hand rather than machine-sewn, which makes it far finer at the seam than a traditional weft. It is attached by first placing a row of small beads across the head, then stitching the weft onto that row.

The result is a continuous band of hair with no bulk at the top, which is why the method has largely replaced older sew-in techniques for clients who want volume rather than just length.

Who are hand-tied wefts best for?

  • Clients who want significant density added, not just length
  • Thicker hair that can support a full row comfortably
  • Anyone who has found individual bonds too time-consuming to maintain
  • Clients wanting fewer, larger attachment points rather than many small ones

Because the wefts sit in rows, hair must be worn in a way that keeps those rows covered. If you part your hair unpredictably or wear very high ponytails, K-tip or I-tip will serve you better — we will say so.

Hand-tied or machine weft — what is the difference?

A machine-sewn weft has a thicker, stiffer seam. A hand-tied weft is finer and lies flatter, so it can be placed closer to the scalp without being felt. Hand-tied costs more and takes longer to apply. On fine to medium hair the difference is worth it; on very thick hair a machine weft may hold better and cost less.

How much do hand-tied weft extensions cost in NYC?

Hand-tied work is quoted after consultation, because it depends on how many rows you need and how much hair each row takes. You get the figure in writing before anything is ordered.

For reference, our published prices are $730 for 16–18 inch tape-in and $950 for 22–26 inch tape-in (application; hair charged separately), $375 per bundle for K-tip and $375 per bundle for I-tip (hair and application included), and $380 to $420 for a fitted clip-in set. Hand-tied sits in the same range as a full tape-in install for most heads.

How often do hand-tied wefts need maintenance?

The beaded rows grow down with your hair and are tightened and re-stitched periodically. The wefts themselves can usually be re-used across several move-ups.

What hair do you use?

Remy human hair, colour-matched in person against your own hair in daylight.
